About the site
The Seaside Beach Resort location and collection of buildings have a long local history, playing a role in the Saint Andrews community for over 170 years.
- Between 1851 and 1899, there was the old St. Andrews Foundry which included part of this property. The foundry was established by brothers John and Alexander Watson, and it did castings for ships and stoves.
- From 1881 to 1901, the front property was owned by Captain and Shipwright James Starke. The beach cottage was his residence, which included a summer kitchen and workshops (now the Seagull, the Cuddy and Harbourview units).
- In the early 1900s, this property included the taxi business of the Denley Livery Stables. The units Stable One and Stable Two were the original single-story section of the saltbox barn. Mr. Denley extended the buildings to include what we now call Stable Three and the larger barn.
- The original Seaside Inn was established by retired sea captain Nelson Clark and his wife Maud in 1921, with an expansion to this side of the road with Seaside Inn and Cabins in the 1930s. What is now Seaside Beach Resort offered both accommodations and recreational facilities including a fenced-in beach for swimming, tennis, croquet and an observation tower.
- One of our more modern buildings, the Kent home was added in the 1970s. It was originally planned as a residence for the owners.
- For the past 29 years, the Seaside Beach Resort was operated by Beth Campbell and David Sullivan. They completed extensive updates throughout the resort including rebuilding the front boardwalk and expansive decks.
About the team
Based in Ottawa for many years, Leah and Abe left their careers in the public service, and moved to southern NB to start a new adventure. Abe grew up on Manitoulin Island ON and Leah was raised in Sussex NB, with her extended family having settled in this community for many generations. We are thrilled to be back to living a more rural lifestyle, along with our dog Garby (Garbanzo) and cat Chickpea.
We took over the Seaside Beach Resort in January of 2025 - a heartfelt thanks to the previous owners Beth and David for all their mentorship and support!
